Self-love is a verb – 7 everyday rituals
Self-love sometimes sounds like something we are supposed to feel. As if one day we will wake up and finally be completely on our own side. But often it begins much more simply than that: in how we treat ourselves when no one else is watching.
For me, self-love is less a feeling and more a practice. It lives in the everyday: eating when you are hungry, resting when you are tired, saying no when something rubs the wrong way, asking for help when you need it.
You do not need to feel amazing in order to take care of yourself. You can begin with the action.

There is a strange contradiction in a lot of self-help: we are told to accept ourselves while also being given a long list of everything we should improve.
I believe more in small, honest actions. Not to become a better version of yourself, but to practise being a person you also take care of.
Self-love is not always liking yourself. It is not abandoning yourself when things are difficult.
7 rituals for self-love
Self-love is a verb
It is something you do again and again. In small choices. In the way you meet your body, your boundaries, your tiredness and your longing.
It can be going to bed earlier. Calling someone. Eating lunch. Going outside. Stopping the attempt to defeat yourself.
Self-love is not carrying everything alone
Ritual, rest and care can be valuable parts of life. But they should not become a demand that you must be able to solve everything from within by yourself.
Sometimes self-love looks like therapy, healthcare, practical help, leaving something that harms you or asking someone else to stay beside you for a while.
Needing support does not make the practice less true. On the contrary, it can be one of the clearest ways to choose yourself.
What is calling to you today?
You do not need to do all seven. Choose the one that feels most possible right now.
Sometimes a new chapter does not begin by changing your whole life. It begins with a walk, a bath, a meal, a no, a conversation – or five minutes where you stop treating yourself as a problem to be solved.
With warmth,
